Artist Statement

Ceramics is an experimentally playful world to me.  Modern design, street culture, sport and skateboarding are my influences.  From these influences I use the plaster lathe, pottery wheel, and mold making techniques to produce my ceramic objects.   Function and decoration are important to me.  Color and form are ever evolving in my work.  Skateboarding and my childhood molded my perspective.  I see all objects as potential obstacles.  I enjoy tight format, with sharp detail and a fresh finish.  I want to portray contemporary style within an ancient art form.  Utilitarian domesticity is the ultimate goal of my work.

I have always been a maker.  The design and execution is just as important to me as the finished product.   I am inspired to make unique objects.  I am a meticulous studio artist with a passion for control of my materials.   Fresh ideas and modern concept intrigue me to master my craft.  Technological equipment is becoming part of everything we do.  Using computer modeling helps reach the next level of precision.  Human created space and natural environments can serve as a place for my work to live.
